As a rheumatologist, I’m often met with a mix of hope and emotion when I first meet a patient. They come to me seeking relief from pain, stiffness, and fatigue—symptoms that have disrupted their lives for far too long. They look for someone who understands the complexities of their condition and can guide them toward a better quality of life.
That’s precisely what I strive to offer my patients at Rheumatology Plus. My name is Dr. Carolina Mejia-Otero, and I’m passionate about helping my patients find the answers to their conditions through love, compassion, and authenticity. Over the years, I’ve learned that rheumatology is not just about treating people’s conditions – it’s also about understanding the invisible struggles that come with chronic pain and helping them find their way back to themselves.
To tell you a bit about myself, I’m a Board-Certified rheumatologist with close to a decade of experience in my field. I obtained my medical degree in 2009 at the Universidad Libre in Colombia, before specializing in Internal Medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami and completing my fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Texas. I’m also trilingual in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, which allows me to communicate with my patients on a deeper, more personal level. This led me to open Rheumatology Plus, a Clermont and Orlando-based rheumatology practice that prioritizes compassionate care and personalized treatment plans to improve our patients’ lives.
I take a holistic approach to rheumatology, focusing on integrative care, patient wellness, and educating about rheumatic diseases. I believe in staying at the forefront of medical advancements, continually expanding my knowledge of the latest research, diagnostic tools, and treatment strategies. But beyond the science, I recognize that each patient is unique in their experiences, concerns, and goals.
My approach to care is rooted in empathy and collaboration, taking the time to listen attentively and understand not only your physical symptoms, but also the emotional and lifestyle impact of your condition.
This personalized approach allows me to tailor treatment strategies to your specific needs. I want to help you rediscover joy, pursue your passions, and live a life that’s full and meaningful. Whether you’re struggling with rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout, or another rheumatic condition, I’m here to guide you on your journey toward better health.
